Why Your Content Gets Likes, But No Clients

One thing nobody tells you: Value ≠ Leads.

The social media “gurus” will say:

  • “Provide value!”
  • “Education builds authority!”
  • “Make your free stuff better than their paid stuff!”

Terrible advice.

Especially if you’re a small creator.

Especially if you actually want to make money.

I learned this the hard way…

50K Impressions. 500 Likes. ZERO Clients.

I thought I had cracked the code.

  • I spent hours creating step-by-step guides
  • I gave away my best insights for free
  • I expected people to line up to work with me

But instead?

Crickets.

No leads. No sales. Just a bunch of “This is so helpful!” comments… and silence.

I was obviously frustrated.

And still I thought, Maybe I just need to provide more value?

Then I realized… the biggest myth in content creation:

Teaching doesn’t make you money.

This tweet perfectly sums it up:

The Content Trap That Kills Sales

Most creators think: “If I give people everything they need, they’ll trust me and buy.”

Here’s the truth:

When you give away the how, people don’t need you anymore.

They take your advice, try to DIY it, and when they struggle?

They assume the method doesn’t work—not that they need YOUR help.

This is why educational creators hit income ceilings while guys like Dan Koe and Justin Welsh make millions.

They don’t just teach. They shift perspectives.

What Smart Creators Do Differently:

Take Alex Hormozi.

He gives away tons of value—but not to his ideal customers.

His clients do 7-8 figures.

So who does he teach?

The beginners and intermediates who aren’t at that level yet.

When they grow and need to scale? They already trust him.

Genius.

The Shift: Stop Teaching. Start Leading.

Here’s what you should be creating:

INSIGHT-driven content.

Content that makes people say:

  • “Damn, I’ve been doing this all wrong.”
  • “I never thought about it like that before.”
  • “I need to fix this ASAP.”

Your content should expose the real problem—not hand out solutions.

  • Instead of: “3 Tips for Better Sales Calls”
  • Try: “The #1 Mistake Losing You Clients on Sales Calls”
  • Instead of: “How to Grow on Social Media”
  • Try: “Why Your Content Isn’t Growing Your Business (Even if You’re Getting Likes)”

See the difference?

You’re not telling them how to fix it.

You’re showing them why they need to fix it right now.

And that? Creates urgency.

My Secret to High-Converting Content

I call it Perspective-Shifting Content.

It does two things:

✅ Aggravates problems—so people feel the pain.

✅ Anchors to solutions—so people see why they need help now.

People have the highest motivation to buy from you when the gap between their current state and future state widens.

The goal of your content is to:

  • Make the problem bigger.
  • Talk about WHY the solution is important.
  • Talk about HOW it helps. Not how it works.

When you do it right?

  • Leads reach out on their own.
  • No aggressive sales tactics needed.
  • Your content sells for you.
Value attracts followers. Insight creates buyers.

Stop just giving people the map. Start showing them WHY your map works.
